lip gloss

My brother is trying to hook me up with an Italian woman that he works with. She’s a little older than I am and she’s new in town. She works with a bunch of hicks (except for my brother), so she’s been trying to go to museums and galleries and concerts by herself because she can’t find anyone else to go with her. I could always use a new friend, especially one that has some sense of fashion that could possibly rub off on me, so I told him to email her to see if she was interested in me calling her or whatev. Here is an excerpt from his email:

Hi [Italian woman],

Hey, I don't know how many people outside of work you have been able to meet but I was thinking that, if you are interested, maybe my sister could help you explore the city a bit better. She lives over in the hip and trendy X district, and is constantly visiting museums, concerts, plays, city festivals and other local attractions. She has traveled the world so has a good perspective on what [city] has to offer that is unique. I think she would also be a lot less provincial than some of the other people you may be running into.

I don't mean to seem forward or anything but I just thought it might be fun for you to meet. If you're interested let me know.

I’ll address the content of his email shortly, but let me first say that she replied immediately that she was definitely interested in meeting me and thanked him profusely. She also said she didn’t want to push me. Um, hello. I have no more friends because they all started to irritate me to the nth degree. I am so, so happy to show someone new around town. I might call her this weekend to see if she wants to grab a coffee or something on Sunday afternoon. Oh, but wait! She’s Italian! Does that automatically mean she’s a coffee snob? What if my local coffee shop doesn’t measure up? Hmm… I’ll have to think of something.

Anyway, the content of his email. Yep, that’s a lot to measure up to. I am constantly visiting museums, concerts, plays, etc.?? Not so much anymore. I let my MFA membership lapse and I haven’t stepped foot into the contemporary art museum in ages. Actually, I was seriously pondering having a little museum circuit this weekend and visiting the contemporary arts and some of my favorite smaller museums. On to the other parts… traveled the world? Can you say that about a person if they’ve never visited Paris? I’ve been to a lot of places. A lot of places that most people would never think of visiting (or would want to visit). But traveled the world? That’s a bit much.

I stayed home from work yesterday for no good reason. I did feel kind of sick, but that didn’t stop me from working out both in the morning and in the evening and then having a session with my trainer. I did take a very long nap too.

I had dinner with Kim on Wednesday night. She’s leaving for Germany on Sunday and she’ll be gone for about three weeks. We hit seph0ra pretty hard, but I only walked out with some Vincent Long0 lipgloss. The sales clerk kept trying to tell me that it was the season for lipstick, not lipgloss, but my lips are perpetually chapped this time of year so this year I think I’ll stick with the gloss.

I’m so glad next week is a holiday. Even though I have to go over to my brother’s house on Thursday and deal with his weirdo wife and weirdo mother-in-law, at least I can hang out with my sister on Friday.
